JSC Grindeks Foundation “For the Support of Science and Education” awards premiums to teachers, higher educational institutions` teaching staff and educational institutions

JSC Grindeks Foundation “For the Support of Science and Education” informs thatt oday, on 29 December, it has awarded teachers, higher educational institutions` teaching staff and educational institutions for the significant contribution to promoting education. The total premium amount – 18,100 lats. Laureates – each teacher received a premium of 700 lats; higher educational institutions` teaching staff – premium of 1,000 lats, in its turn,  educational institutions received support premiums of 5,000 lats.

Among the laureates are the chemistry teacher Nadezhda Mednis from Liepaja A. Pushkin Secondary School No. 2, the biology teacher Lauma Micane from Friendly Appeal Cesis State Gymnasium, the chemistry teacher Inese Orbidane from Ogre Secondary School No.1. Premiums were awarded to the Docent at the Dosage Form Technology Department of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Riga Stradins University (RSU) Irena Daberte, Docent in Pharmacology at the Internal Medicine Department of the Faculty of Medicine of RSU Santa Purvina, Head of the ChemicalTechnology of Biologically Active Compounds Department of the Faculty of Material Science and Applied Chemistry of the Riga Technical University (RTU), Professor, Doctor of Chemistry, Corresponding Member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences Mara Jure, Dean of the Faculty of Material Science and Applied Chemistry of RTU, Professor, Doctor of Chemistry, Corresponding Member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences Valdis Kokars, Associate Professor at the Chair of Organic Chemistry of the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Latvia Anda Priksane, Associate Professor at the Chair of Plant Physiology of the Faculty of Biology of the University of Latvia Uldis Kondratovics. Special support premiums received Liepaja A. Pushkin Secondary School No. 2 and Mechanics and Technology College of Olaine.

Showing concern for the Latvian science and education, in 2006 Grindeks set up the Foundation “For the Support of Science and Education”. Every year, support from the Foundation of Grindeks receive those, who have showed excellence in various Latvian educational and scientific fields. During its five-years of activity, the Foundation has awarded premiums, scholarships and supported a variety of education and science promoting projects in amount of nearly half a million lats. This is a contribution that is difficult to assess in the short term, but it is an important investment in the future and development of the Latvian state. I express my greatest appreciation and gratitude to our laureates – teachers, higher educational institutions` teaching staff and educational institutions, which prepare knowledgeable and highly qualified specialists for the chemical and pharmaceutical industry!”
