On September 16, for the eighth time Public Joint Stock Company Grindeks in co-operation with the Latvian Education Foundation (LEF) through its target programme “Education, Science and Culture” presented awards to the winners of scientific work competitions in the field of pharmaceutical chemistry and the synthesis of biologically active ingredients.
For the successive eighth year, Grindeks is involved in the Latvian Education Foundation’s target programme, “Education, Science and Culture”. As part of the programme, grants are issued to the best students in the chemistry sector and cash prizes are awarded to the winners of scientific work competitions. Every year, Grindeks invests more than 5,000 lats in this programme.
On September 16, 2003 PAS Grindeks awarded cash prizes to six young chemists, who were winners in the scientific work competition organised through the LEF’s target programme, “Education, Science and Culture” on the subject of The Chemistry of Pharmacy and the Synthesis of Biologically Active Ingredients. Two prize winners represent the University of Latvia’s Faculty of Chemistry and another four young talents are graduates of the Riga Technical University’s Faculty of Material-Sciences and Applied Chemistry.
The prizes were presented by Grindeks Chairman of the Board, Valdis Jākobsons and Head of the LEF target programme, Professor Imants Meierovics.
Every Bachelor’s project author and the Science tutor thereof received a cash prize in the amount of 50 lats and each author of a Master’s project or engineering project and the Science tutor thereof received a cash prize in the amount of 80 lats.
As part of the LEF target programme, twice a year Grindeks also presents grants to the best students in the chemistry sector. During the past eight years, the company has supported 118young specialists. Annually, Grindeks donates around 5,000 lats to the LEF target programme.
During the ceremony, Grindeks Chairman of the Board, Valdis Jākobsons noted that, “Awarding prizes to the best young chemists is part of the company’s investment in the development of Latvian pharmacy and the science of chemistry. The support of this industry’s scientists, academic and young specialists is also one of the long-term principles of Grindeks’ personnel policy. As Latvia enters Europe, the company will encounter increased competition and highly qualified specialists will be essential. We await them from educational institutions that are close to our sector and, of course, we support their development.”
